Mistake #1 – Drywall

When it comes to drywall you need to leave it to the professionals. Drywall is one of those projects that may cause more damage in the future if not done right the first time.

Mistake #2 – Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

Anyone that knows about repairs will tell you to leave the HVAC repairs to the professionals. The heating and cooling systems in your house are complex and most likely connected to electricity and gas.

What does this mean? It means if you make a mistake you can blow out the entire HVAC system, this mistake will cost you a few thousand dollars. HVAC systems carry a lot of electrical currents and any small short may cause serious injury or even death.

Mistake #3 – Dishwasher Installation

Dishwashers are connected to the water and drain lines under the kitchen sink cabinets. Breaking a water line will not only cause some serious water damage to your house but also to the foundation. Water damage is one of the most expensive damages alongside with fires and natural disasters. Even if you get the dishwater to work there can be water leaks that are not visible right away.

Mistake #4 – Electrical Repairs

Making any type of electrical repairs is a big no, no. Not only can you electrocute yourself but you may also cause a short circuit which can cause the half of the house to permanently lose power or even worst, start a fire inside the walls.

Electrical shorts are considered to be one of the top most common causes of electrical fires according to the U.S. Fire Administration, in 2018. According to the report most electrical fires are between December and January due to increased use of heating appliances.

It’s important to teach children about what to do when there’s a fire in the home, having fire extinguishers are also a good idea.

Mistake #5 – Plumbing

A slow or clogged drain might be one of the most common do-it-yourself online since most clogged drains only need a little help from a plunger. When a plunger, unclogger or a drain snake doesn’t get the job done you have a serious task on your hands that need serious professional assistance.

What might seem like a simple clogged sink or toilet might turn into a serious problem when you see water backing up. A gargling sound coming from a clogged sink is a sign of a severe issue that might cause be a main sewer drain clog if this problem happens to you be prepared to pay serious money for repairs.
