Over the past couple of decades, showers have become more popular. Across the world, people are opting to have their baths ripped out and replacing them with shower enclosures.

They are doing so because taking a shower is easier and faster than having a bath. It is also cheaper and better for the environment, so if you do not have a shower in your home installing one is something that is well worth considering.

If you have already decided to have a shower installed in your home, please read on. Below we tell you about some things that you need to think about and take into consideration before going ahead and buying one.

Who will be using the shower?

It is particularly important to think about who will be using the shower. If all family members will use it, you need to make sure that the height of the showerhead can be adjusted enough.

You should also ensure that the taps are installed at a height that is easy to reach. The taps need to be easy for everyone to turn on and off, and adjust the temperature.

If some members of your family are a bit unsteady on their feet, it is well worth considering installing a fold up seat. Try to think ahead a bit, and work out whether it would be useful to have a grab rail installed, so that you can use it in a few years, when you are older.

Little touches like adding a corner storage rack are also well worth doing. That way everything you need to bathe will be easily at hand.

Safety

In a bathroom, safety is an important consideration. It is all too easy to slip over and hurt yourself.  Therefore, you need to buy a shower cubicle, or tray, that has a good anti slip floor. It is also important to make sure that the area surrounding the shower is safe to stand on when wet.

Think carefully about the style of taps you have installed. Usually, in a shower cubicle, manual taps that you turn with your hands are safer than the lever type. Installing the manual type means there is no risk of your knocking the tap and changing the flow of the water and scolding yourself under the sudden blast of hot water that shoots out from the showerhead.

Cleaning

Another important consideration is how easy it will be to keep clean. If you live in a hard water area, they last thing you need is a glass cubicle. This is because, unless you clean the entire shower cubicle every time you use it, limescale will quickly build up on the glass. Of course, if you do not mind cleaning and can rely on every member of the family to wipe the entire shower down each time, this may not be an issue. However, for most people it is something that they need to consider.
