I have always been someone who thrives on the contents of my wardrobe, and there is nothing better than a good party to encourage one to dress sharply and impress the guests.
As it was approaching autumn and summer was almost over, I reasoned that it would be a good time to say so long to summer and host one of the first cocktail parties of the autumn season. I knew that this would be a good opportunity to catch up with my nearest and dearest as well as some new friends I had made this summer, but ultimately it was the opportunity for me to find a new autumnal ensemble to wow them all.
This Season’s Colours
At last, this season’s colours are no longer about the dark and the demure but happily contain a splash of colour. Known as the “Highlighter Brights”, these vivid colours can be included as an accessory or piece of clothing to add a pop to any plain outfit.
This is just perfect for me as I am not a man who can pull off a pair of white jeans, however adding just a splash of colour to a dark suit makes me stand out from the crowd.
Although it is usually the case that as soon as a new collection is released, so too are the new “season’s colours”, this doesn’t mean that you can’t experiment a little. Just think of them as a guideline rather than a rulebook. I’m sure that you already know what colours look good on you and what don’t, so tying them all together and finding an outfit that is right for the season and that suits you is really the only way to go.
One of My Favourites
With the day of the cocktail party in sight, it was important for me to find my perfect outfit. I had cleared out my summer wardrobe and began to fill it with the more muted tones of autumn – but not forgetting my bright accessories.
Although winter was on its way it wasn’t cold enough to pull out the pullover just yet, so I decided to go with one of my old favourites. A simple shirt and trouser combo, with a splash of colour courtesy of a brand-new pair of mint green suspenders.
I had only spotted these suspenders recently, during a virtual shopping trip on the World Wide Web, but I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them. In fact, this may have been the reason behind the whole cocktail party – but who knows!
The Big Day
The day of the cocktail party had arrived and I was feeling comfortable and confident in my new outfit. Once the guests began to arrive I was blown away by the compliments that I received, especially for my suspenders. To me, these really are an item that will never go out of fashion. They can turn an ordinary outfit into something fantastic, and it certainly won’t be the last pair of suspenders I buy!
